David Rice crashes through the ice of a frozen river on a winter's day. Drowning he emerges instantaneously in a library, on the floor in a puddle of river water. The tramatic near-death incident has triggered a genetic anomally that gives him the ability to teleport himself to any destination. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and those who have sworn to kill them.
